About Kelsey Alexander

Guided by Our Ancestors, Embraced with Compassion

Welcome! I’m Kelsey Alexander—a genealogist, master-level social worker, and veteran therapist with a lifelong devotion to history, human connection, and the stories that live within each of us. With a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and over two decades of experience serving marginalized communities, I approach every genealogical journey with empathy, precision, and deep respect.

My own family tree winds through centuries of transformation. I am honored, horrified, and humbled to be the 19th-great-granddaughter of Edward III, the 25th-great-granddaughter of Eleanor of Aquitaine, and the 21st-great-granddaughter of Edward I. I share bloodlines with William the Conqueror—whose dramatic rise in 1066 reshaped the ancestry of Western Europe, though not without enormous cost: pain, suffering, and exploitation of the vulnerable. That truth deserves acknowledgment. It is part of the story.

And the pattern continued. I am also descended from six Mayflower passengers and early Jamestown settlers—figures whose journeys held promise for some and devastation for many. History repeats itself, and those echoes live on in our blood and in our stories.

These connections inspire not only my passion for research, but a deep belief in generational trauma—and its very real impact on each of us, both individually and collectively. The lives of these individuals—flawed, complex, and deeply human—illuminate our self-awareness and remind us that we are part of something greater: one shared human genome, one unfolding story. Until we face our inherited truths with honesty and compassion, we remain unfinished. Healing begins with remembering.

As a lifelong student of history, I treat every ancestor with equal importance. Royal or unknown, each name carries a story—and every story deserves its place. Whether a client descends from kings or coal miners, I strive to honor the lives nearly lost to time, always within historical and emotional context.

Hi, I’m Kelsey Alexander—licensed clinical social worker, genealogist, and founder of The Trauma Informed Genealogist LLC. I help people uncover their roots, process generational trauma, and build legacy with intention. Whether you’re navigating a DNA surprise, exploring adoption, or simply yearning to know where you come from, I offer trauma-informed support, deep archival research, and coaching that honors both fact and feeling. I specialize in helping Black Americans access records once thought unreachable, to help them reclaim their stories.

I believe that ancestral truth is a form of liberation. That healing can begin with a name, a story, a connection. And that every person deserves to know where they come from—not just for history’s sake, but for their own. This isn’t just genealogy. It’s reclamation. It’s healing.

In addition to genealogical research, I offer trauma-informed coaching sessions to help clients prepare for and process emotionally complex discoveries. My goal is for ancestral exploration to lead not only to facts—but to healing.
